We use snake venom preparations in the manufacturing of many of our medicines, including MDFARMA® natural pain relief products and our all-natural and organic skincare products. Snake venoms have been of great medicinal importance in cultures throughout the world. Written records for their powerful healing qualities date back to Chinese Materia Medica before 1500 AD. In the U.S., the concept of using cobra venom as an analgesic date back to 1936 when researchers showed that the analgesic effects of cobra venom in minute doses were superior to the effects of morphine (PNAS, vol22 no1, 1936). Opium and morphine were considered homeopathic drugs in the United States until they were subjected to prescription control under the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act of 1914. It has been suggested that cobra venom’s impressive safety record and observed response rate, in addition to efficacy in analgesic models, may warrant its re-introduction as an alternative to opiates (Alternative Therapies, Jan/Feb 2011, VOL. 17, NO. 1). We add industrial hemp extract (Cannabis sativa) containing cannabidiol (CBD) with undetectable tetrahydrocannabinol when formulating the MDFARMA products. Cannabis sativa has been used by humans for thousands of years, and it is listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States. Cannabidiol’s antioxidant properties, useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of a wide variety of diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases are a subject of US Department of Health and Human Services granted patent (US6630507B1). Significant reduction in subjective pain score has been reported when treating acute pain (Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research Volume 5, Number 4, 2020). The published survey of 253 patients indicated that 59% benefited from using CBD-containing products experiencing pain relief and allowing reduction of other pain medications, including opioids (J Pain Res 2021 May 5;14:1241-1250). Recently, the use of synthetic cannabidiol has been described to have significant anticancer effects in breast cancer, with 27 out of 29 patients with a positive clinical response (Case Reports and Images in Oncology doi: 10.47496/nl.CRIO.2020.01.05 Volume 1(1): 6-6).
